Review: New Kids on the Block – Step By Step (Pop)

This review covers the pop track New Kids on the Block – Step By Step.

This track was released in 1990 on the album Step by Step.

One thing that is immediately obvious is the fact that the overall musical sound really says early 90’s. The style of keys, the strings, and especially that kind of bass used. If you remember those years, you’ll probably also have a rush of images from the 90s.

A major aspect is the vocals. Obviously, when there are 5 vocalists, there is going to be a lot of variety. They all worked quite well in adding variety and quality to the track. The downside to this is that the lyrics really don’t make a lot of sense. There’s no real flow to them. All they are are just a collection of keywords that are seemingly supposed to make a good track. Ultimately, all it does is render the track meaningless for the most part.

The overall flow was surprisingly not bad. There was some logical flow to it and even threw in some creativity with the lyrics towards the end of the track.

Generally speaking, this track was OK. While it has some interesting sound in it, the overall quality drops thanks to the meaningless lyrics. At this point, it’s only really good for giving someone a dose of the early 90’s.
