First Impression: Diablo III (Playstation 3)

Welcome to the 204th instalment of our first impression video series. Today, we are playing the Playstation 3 game, Diablo III for the first time. You can check out the video directly on YouTube or in the embed below:

Long before I was making fist impression video’s like this, I was playing and reviewing Diablo and Diablo II. As a result, I didn’t exactly have the capabilities of recording video game footage. Still, I’d like to think I have some experience playing these games.

I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect going into this, but this was definitely quite the change in style. Yes, there were familiar elements in this game, but a lot has changed as well. Health and mana pools don’t feature prominently any more and experience points and levels are pushed to the forefront. Something that took me off guard. A lot of other UI changes meant that I was actually left trying to figure out a lot of things from scratch. What’s more, movement is no longer point and click and, instead, you are controlling the characters movements directly which was quite the change to say the least.

Either way, I felt like I was relearning a whole lot all over again, but I’m sure I’ll get used to things moving forward.

What did you think of this game? For those who have played this game, was this an interesting step in the right direction or were there a lot of missteps along the development road that you saw in this game afterwards?
