Review: Cheap Trick – Carnival Game (Rock)

This review covers the pop rock track Cheap Trick – Carnival Game.

This track was released in 1997 on a self-titled album.

The track starts with a brief piano along with some non-lyrical vocals. The guitars and drum kit come in shortly after as the non-lyrical vocals continue.

From there, the vocals take the track into the first verse. Part way through, some lead guitars come in periodically. A drum solo then comes in for a brief moment. From there, the vocals take the track into the main chorus. The lead guitars join the track on a more constant basis.

After that, the vocals take the track into the next verse. After a brief drum solo, the vocals then take the track into the next round of the main chorus. This is capped off with a guitar solo.

From there, the vocals take the track into another round of the main chorus. This is capped off with some backup vocals joining the track as the vocals extend the main chorus. The track is then lead out with some quiet guitar notes.

For me, the track does take on a more laid back sound. There is the slower BPM and the light use of the lead guitars that help contribute to this.

So much of this track is simply decent. The guitars are pretty decent and the vocals are pretty decent as well. There’s nothing that is overly bad about this one.

The downside here is that there’s not a whole lot that I can get truly excited over. I try to think about what makes this track stand out and be interesting, but I really can’t think of anything in particular.

Overall, this is one of those track that doesn’t sound bad, but doesn’t sound amazing either. The good news about this track is that I can’t really think of anything that is particularly bad. It has decent vocals, lyrics, guitars, flow, and, well, pretty much everything else. The bad news is that there’s nothing to get particularly excited over in this one. So, a decent track even if it isn’t all that memorable.

Score
7/10
