Welcome to the 226th instalment of our first impression video series. Today, we are playing the Playstation 4 game, Ratchet & Clank for the first time. You can check out the video directly on YouTube or in the embed below:

After largely playing this series in chronological order, I opted to skip ahead a little to try a more recent instalment… well, more recent than the PS3 anyway.

This was a rather curious instalment – mostly for the whole premise. It’s a game… that was based on the movie… that was based on the game. In fact, the game itself even makes fun of that aspect. Still, it was refreshing to see this game at least return back to it’s former style instead of the experimentation style of gameplay with games like All 4 One at least.

At least with what I largely experienced with the first few minutes, it definitely feels like a return to the original form that made the earliest instalments so good. The only difference thus far is the upgraded graphics and the perspective on the storytelling. Otherwise, it definitely has that standard Ratchet & clank feel. So, I’m looking forward to playing through more of this game.

I wanted to hear from you, though. What are your thoughts on this game?

For those who have played this one, was this a great addition to the franchise that you enjoyed or was this an odd swerve into a different direction for the series?

For those who haven’t played this one, but have played other games in the franchise, what are your thoughts on what you saw here? Does this look like a game you might be interested in playing or do you have too many fond memories of the older titles to play this one?

Also, for those who have never played any of these games before, what are your thoughts on what you see here? Does the concept of a smooth hybrid of action adventure and third person shooter seem like a cool concept worth trying or does the more cartoon style of games like this make you think twice about playing something like this? Let us know in the comments below!
