First Impression: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (Switch)

Welcome to the 224th instalment of our first impression video series. Today, we are playing the Nintendo Switch game, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe for the first time. You can check out the video directly on YouTube or in the embed below:

This was a game I was looking forward to playing for a while now. It received considerably high praise and I knew this franchise had a history of good games. So, the moment I had a chance to play it, well, I did.

One thing is for sure, though, while playing this, I could see a lot of similarities from older entries in the franchise. To be clear, there are two major instalments I hadn’t gotten to. Those would be Mario Kart Wii and Mario Kart 7. Otherwise, apart from some minor spinoffs and instalments, I’ve played through the franchise for the most part. While it’s not a complete picture, it certainly is a more complete picture than what most gamers have.

One thing that did strike me was the customization. I’m not used to that level of customization in a Mario Kart game. So, I guess that’s a thing now at least. While choosing different characters is nothing new to me, picking and choosing kart parts was. So, that’ll be interesting for me to explore at least.

Anyway, I wanted to hear from you. What are your thoughts on this game? For those who have played this game, what did you think? Did you enjoy this one and had a lot of fun or did you find this one to be overrated?

For those who have played other entries in the franchise, but not this one, what are your thoughts? Does this look like a game you’d totally be willing to try or are you less of a fan of playing so many Mario Kart games at this point?
