Review: Ferry Corsten & Shelley Harland – Holding On (Ferry Corsten’s Flashover Mix) (Trance)

This review covers the trance track Ferry Corsten & Shelley Harland – Holding On (Ferry Corsten’s Flashover Mix).

This track was released in 2005 as part of a single.

The track starts with some percussion work. After a reverse cymbal, more of the drum kit joins in along with a synth. Another synth then gradually starts to fade in with filtering gradually taken off. A vocal then makes an appearance. A few other synth effects make appearances. Another synth makes an occasional appearance. The vocals make another appearance. Some additional synth effects make an appearance.

After another round of an appearance by the vocals, the drum kit drops out along with other synths. Synth pads join the track. The effects continues. After another appearance by the vocals, the drum kit returns along with some other synths. The vocals then make another appearance and the drum kit largely drops out.

From there, the drum kit returns along with some added percussion work. The vocals make another appearance and the drum kit drops out again. Some more synths join the track. The kick and high hat then returns. The kick has a drill effect before the vocals make another appearance. From there, the rest of the drum kit returns.

After that, the vocals make another appearance as the drum kit briefly drops out. Then, the drum kit returns as some synths fade out. The vocals make an appearance. Effects derived from the vocals continue. The kick undergoes another slow drill effect and the vocals then lead the track out.

Generally speaking, this track does have that slightly grittier sound of trance that can be refreshing to hear at times. As a result, this track does have an interesting sound throughout.

The synths work quite well. The squarish bassline along with the pads and melody all offer a fulfilling audio experience.

The vocals to make an appearance and offer some added flavor, though I’m not sure they were fully utilized in this track.

Overall, this is a solid track. It’s got that slightly harder style trance that helps give this a different listening experience. The vocals, though, are underutilized. Still, it does have an overall nicely done sound to it. So, a track that does get a thumbs up from me.
