Welcome to the 251st instalment of our first impression video series. Today, we are playing the Playstation 5 game, Gran Turismo 7 for the first time. You can check out the video directly on YouTube or in the embed below:
So, I finally made it. I’ve played through Gran Turismo 1-6 as well as Gran Turismo Sport. For me, the series has been somewhat touch and go, but there have been good entries as well. In playing these games, I happen to know that going through these one by one is an extremely time consuming project. Still, I have a better understanding of this franchise as a whole.
Obviously, this is the only major game left I haven’t played, but that is changing today thanks to this first impression video.
Immediately, I can tell that this franchise is continuing to implement absolutely horrible UI designs. While very few of these games have decent designs in the first place, I’m thinking that this might truly be the worst one yet thanks to the addition of the Cafe that makes no sense and complicating things further by hiding the upgrade system and turning it into some sort of RNG “gift” system (at least that’s how I ultimately figured it out shortly after recording this video anyway). This was made worse by doing away with one of the last remaining sensible UI designs of offering a list of race series and breaking it up into heavily locked away locations on the map with few to no hints on how progression even works right off the bat, leaving newer players just plain confused about how anything even really works.
While I could tell that there are faults in this game, I also happen to know that there is some pretty solid racing to be had in the races themselves. The feel of the vehicles are at least realistic and you could tell that you were making some progress between the experience points you were earning and the credits on top of it all.
So, it’s not all bad news on this front, but I’m already getting a pretty mixed bag of pros and cons. I definitely still have the rest of the game to go in terms of overall racing, so maybe the rough edges will get sanded down over time, but who knows at this point?
Anyway, I wanted to hear from you. What are your thoughts on this game?
For those who have played this game, what are your thoughts? Was this a very solid racing experience that you can totally see yourself going back to or did you feel like this game got boring to play after a while?
For those who have played other Grant Turismo games, but not this one, what did you think of what you saw here? Is this an all too familiar game that you’d be happy to pick up or does the changes make you think twice about this one?
Also, for those who haven’t played any of the Gran Turismo games at all, what are your thoughts on what you saw here? Is this a game that intrigues you and maybe something you’d like to pick up for yourself or are simulation racing games not really your thing? Let us know in the comments below!
