Review: White Water – The Unknown (Club Mix) (Trance)

This review covers the progressive trance track White Water – The Unknown (Club Mix).

This track was released in 2005 as part of a single.

The track starts with a sweep-like sound. A subtle side chain effect is applied as it fades out and a synth joins the track along with parts of the drum it. The bassline joins the track. A clap is then added along with another periodic synth. The high hat also joins the track. Vocal elements then make an appearance in the track. Another synth then starts fading in as the vocal elements make another appearance. This happens an additional time after a bit. The main vocal makes a bigger presence.

After that, parts of the track drop out as the vocals become lyrical. The drum kit drops out as the vocals take the track into the main chorus. A long delay effect allows the vocals to drop out. A synth gradually fades in. When the vocals return briefly, the rest of the track joins the track. The main synth melody then takes over.

After another round of the vocal effect, the vocals go through another round in the main chorus. A vocal effect makes an appearance and parts of the track then drops out along with the vocals. After another vocal effect, the vocals then continue on in a non-lyrical manner. An effect makes an appearance and a few additional synths join the track. Another synth then gradually starts to fade in.

Another vocal effect makes an appearance and large portions of the track drop out. After a brief appearance from the main vocals, the rest of the track rejoins in the midst of a short snare roll. The synth melody continues on. The main vocals rejoin the track for another round in the main chorus. At the end, the vocals drop out with a delay effect. From there, parts of the track drop out.

From there, a synth effect makes an appearance and a few more synths drop out along with parts of the drum kit. There is then another sweep-like effect. A reverse cymbal makes an appearance and the last of the synths gradually start fading out. A vocal effect along with a high hat with a delay effect applied then leads the track out.

For me, a lot about this track is great. When the main synth melody takes over, this becomes one great track to listen to. Everything comes together so very nicely.

In addition to this, the addition of the main vocals really rounds out the track nicely. It adds a great overall sound.

The only thing that holds this track back, in my opinion, is that the best parts of the track don’t necessarily stick around all that long. They become fleeting in a way. As a result, it gives the track a sense of disappointment.

Still, despite the shortness of the tracks highlights, this is a very solid track on the verge of being a great one. It’s got great vocals and a great synth melody. Everything comes together nicely. So, definitely a track that gets a thumbs up from me.
