This review covers the uplifting trance track Sun Decade – Follow You (Mike Shiver’s Catching Sun Mix).
This track was released in 2004 as part of a single.
A synth pad and bassline fades in. A seagull sound sample makes an appearance. Then, a synth joins the track. The bassline fades down and the drum kit joins the track. A voice sample makes an appearance with the synth pad faded down. Another synth gradually fades in. After a synth effect, the drum kit becomes more full and is backed by more full synth sounds.
From there, the vocals join the track along with another synth. The drum kit drops out for a moment before the synths become more melodic in nature. Some synth strings join the track. From there, the vocals drop out and a piano joins the track.
After a heavily reverberated kick, most of the drum kit drops out and the seagull sample returns. This is joined by a wave sound sample that makes repeated appearances. The vocals then rejoin in a non-lyrical manner. Everything else fades out.
From there, the vocals take the track into the main chorus with a chime element. Synth pads join the track part way through. After another kick, the vocals and synth pads drop out. Another synth melody joins the track. One of the other synths gradually fades in with elements of the drum kit. A slow kick and snare drill makes an appearance. After that, the drum kit fills out along with the other synths.
The vocals then return in a non-lyrical manner with the new synth dropping out. After the vocal element drops out again, the piano makes another return. The non-lyrical vocals make a return in a different manner. Some of the pads drop out. Parts of the drum kit then drops out. After that, the drum kit returns. A sample of the vocal makes an appearance. After another appearance of the vocal element, minor parts of the track drop out including a couple of synths. A filtered white noise sweep makes an appearance and more elements drop out including parts of the drum kit. Another white noise sweep appears along with the vocal sample makes another appearance. A synth then leads the track out.
For me, the vocals really work quite well here. They give a nice smooth and silky sound when they are doing the non-lyrical parts. When they have lyrics, they really give this track some nice personality as well. As a result, the vocals is easily an element that wins me over.
The synths also works quite well. Both the pads and the melodic synths really gives this track some very well done variety and helps strengthen the quality of the track.
In addition to that, the samples really gives this track a nice finishing touch to round things out. Definitely approve of the samples thrown in.
Overall, this is a great track. It has great vocals, great synths, and some nice samples thrown in. The production quality is top notch and really is a nice uplifting track all around. A great track that gets a thumbs up from me.
