This review covers the progressive trance track John O’Callaghan & Bryan Kearney – Restricted Motion (Original Mix).
This track was released in 2005 as part of a single.
The track starts with a drum kit and a synth. A synth effect makes an appearance and the drum kit fills out. There is also the addition of a bassline. A sweeping effect makes an appearance. A snare roll then makes an appearance. Another synth then joins the track. A chopped choir element then makes an appearance. After that, another synth joins the track. A snare roll then makes another appearance as the rest of the drum kit temporarily drops out. The drum kit returns and another synth joins the track. A snare roll makes another appearance as the drum kit drops out.
A kick with heavy reverberation makes an appearance as some of the synths drop out. After that, some of the synths then serve as the main synth melody. The reverberated kick makes multiple appearances as well. The main synth melody then fades out with a sweep.
From there, the main synth melody then gradually fades back in with the release heavily reduced. This release is then gradually extended. Some pads join the track, backing the main synth melody. A snare roll makes an appearance. This is capped off with a chopped choir element. Another snare roll then makes an appearance as the synths gradually build back up.
Then, the drum kit returns as the main synth melody takes over. Several other synths also join in at this stage. After another snare roll, some added synths join the track to back the main synth melody. A filtered kick drill effect makes an appearance as the synth melodies continue. A kick drill effect makes an appearance and the main synth melody drops out. The chopped choir element makes another appearance.
After another kick drill effect, some of the pads drop out. A snare roll makes an appearance again. This is followed by a synth effect. After another effect, a few more synths drop out. Another effect makes an appearance and parts of the drum kit drops out. A sweep and a few synths then lead the track out.
One thing I really do like about this track is the layered elements throughout. It’s hard to keep track of all the effects that are going on throughout this track, but they all give this track a very rich sound. That is definitely nice to hear.
Another thing I like about this track is the main synth melodies. It works pretty well and the evolution of the overall sound really adds to the overall quality of this track.
Additionally, this track does have pretty good flow throughout. In the less important portions, the track might have been a bit overly stretched, but this winds up being a minor problem in the grand scheme of things.
Overall, this is a very solid track. It’s got good flow and great layering. The synth melody works quite well partly because of how it evolves throughout. So, an overall solid track as far as I’m concerned.
