This review covers the alternative rock 30 Seconds to Mars – The Kill.
This track was released in 2005 on the album A Beautiful Lie.
The track starts with an effect. After that, a guitar and the main vocals join the track. A backup vocal makes an appearance. The drum kit joins the track.
A snare roll appears as the vocals take the track into the main chorus. The track drops out after that.
A few guitars, the drum kit, and the main vocals return for a verse. After a snare roll, the vocals take the track into the main chorus. This is backed by lead guitars.
The piano joins the track as the vocals continue on. Most elements drop out, leaving a 303 synth and the vocals.
After that, the vocals take the track into the main chorus again. This round in the main chorus is modified. Several elements then drop out as the vocals are continuing in the background. The track then stops after.
For me, the vocals are OK, though nothing spectacular. In fact, they can be a bit hard to understand at times. So, I don’t really find them to be entirely impressive here.
The guitar work is decent enough. They do carry the track through nicely.
A problem, however, is how the track cuts out and in. While, when used sparingly, can be a great effect, in this case, it just breaks the overall flow.
Overall, this is a pretty average track. It’s got OK vocals and decent guitar work. Unfortunately, the overall flow is generally a bit broken with the cuts and starts. An OK track, but nothing to get excited over.
