Welcome to the 227th instalment of our first impression video series. Today, we are playing the XBox One game, Project CARS for the first time. You can check out the video directly on YouTube or in the embed below:
I’ve played my fair share of simulation racing games. Whether that is a number of Forza games or the Gran Turismo games, I think it’s safe to say that I have a fair bit of experience in these kinds of games.
Of course, when it comes to simulation racing games, those two franchises aren’t the only ones. Another example is Project CARS. This is one of the franchises I discovered while doing my research for what games to play. So, I thought I’d give it a spin to see what it’s like to play something else.
My understanding is that this is a simulation racing game, but without having to plan out earning cash to buy vehicles. Instead, you just race in said different vehicles. I, admittedly, was a little skeptical because when I played the first Need for Speed game, Road and Track Presents The Need for Speed, I remember just leaving everything unlocked ended up being a pitfall for the game because there is no sense of progression. All you are doing is adding a little trophy to a picture and… that’s it. So, I was curious to see what this game had to offer.
Well, as you can tell with the video, I got something completely different: simulation go-kart racing. Presumably, this is the first thing the game lets you try before getting into other classes. The thing is, with go-kart simulation racing, you need very quick reflexes which is something you get after racing other slow vehicles over time. Throwing this at the player right away was an odd design choice as far as I’m concerned. Still, it’s what I got and I am curious to see if things get better from here.
Anyway, I wanted to hear from you. What are your thoughts on this game?
For those who have played this game, what did you think? Was it nice to see some competition in simulation racing games space or did this game leave a lot to be desired?
For those who haven’t played this game, but have played other games in this franchise, what are your thoughts? Does this look like an interesting game to check out to see where this whole thing began or are you going to just pass on this one?
Also, for those who have never played any of these games before, what are your thoughts? Does this look like a game you might want to try or do you think the design is just too strange for you? Let us know in the comments below!
