It’s a very different thing to have a first impression video on a game I technically have already played. Indeed, I actually played the original SNES game when it was first released. As of this posting, the game remains to be number 19 in my top games list of all time: https://www.freezenet.ca/reviews/video-game-reviews/top-greatest-games-time/
So, part of me selecting this game was about personal choice, knowing I was going to be having fun with this title. Another part was just me challenging myself to see if I could review a game fairly given that I have fond memories of the original release.
Despite the many years that separated the playthroughs, I would say I managed to remember a lot about this game anyway. I could immediately tell just how true to form this one is to the original release. At the same time, I could tell it also had some quality of life improvements. I might have been wrong on my assessment of that percentage sign. I thought it was an experience point tracker, but I realized afterwards that it could be for a different feature. Ah well, can’t be perfect on a live uncut recording, right?
So, I’m curious to see if there are other differences moving forward as well.
Also, I wanted to hear from you. What are your thoughts on this game?
For those who have played this game, did you think this was a great true to form experience? For those who have only played this game, was this an interesting game to play through or did you think that it might have been more nostalgia that propelled this game?
For those who didn’t play this title, but played the original game, what are your thoughts on what you saw here? Is this a re-release you are very interested in trying or do you think it doesn’t make sense to play the same game again for full price?
Also, for those who have never played an RPG style Mario game, what are your thoughts? Do you think this is a game you could see yourself playing or does the idea of a turned based RPG game seem kind of janky to you? Let us know in the comments below!
