Welcome to the 152nd instalment of our first impression video series. Today, we are playing the Steam game, Mass Effect for the first time. You can check out the video directly on YouTube or in the embed below:

To some degree, it’s actually surprising that with all the Steam games I have on this channel, none of them were games from the Mass Effect franchise. Obviously, I’m now changing that. This game has been sitting in my Steam library all this time just waiting to finally be played and I have been noticing that title and saying, “I’ll eventually get to that.” Anyway, we’re here now and that’s what matters.

Still, when I say I have no experience with this franchise, oh yeah, I mean it. All I knew was that it was a well known title in a well known franchise, the release year, and that it was a sci-fi shooter.

Now, I did play a little bit after what you see here and it appears that there is also a levelling system for your squad as well. This is definitely something I found interesting and an overall interesting take on how to implement RPG-like elements to a shooter style game. It reminds me a bit of the Borderlands series in that regard. Dialogue system, though, as mentioned in the video, does remind me of what I saw in early Witcher games.

At any rate, this game does intrigue me with seeing a bit more. A part of me wished I could’ve shown more, but at the same time, I might have had to age restrict the video because of the added violence, so I’m also happy I didn’t get that far at the same time (it means more people can at least see what I’ve been up to lately).

What did you think of this game? Was it an all time classic for you that you would totally recommend to others or did you have preferences to other games?

For those who have played newer titles in this franchise, but not necessarily this game, does this look like it has some familiar elements to it and it would make you more motivated to finally getting around to playing this title or does it come off as too old of a game for you?

Also, for those who haven’t played this game, what did you think of what you saw? Does this look like an interesting game to play or did you find that the pacing was a bit slow for your taste? Let us know in the comments below!
