Welcome to the 133rd instalment of our first impression video series. Today, we are playing the PC/Steam game, Penumbra: Overture for the first time. You can check out the video directly on YouTube or in the embed below:

We are taking a trip back to 2007 to play the survival horror game, Penumbra: Overture.

One thing is for sure, I’m pretty much going in blind. I know nothing about this game beyond the genre. I can definitely say playing this, so far, was a bit like playing Shadowgate 64. A very puzzle based game where you use the environment around you to try and make progress in the game. After the video, I found out that there are, indeed, enemies, but the first bit is definitely puzzle oriented.

For those who have played this one, what did you think? Was this a really nice change of pace compared to your typical survival horror game or was the pacing too slow for you?

For those who have only played the other game, what did you think of what you saw here? Would this be an interesting game to play or are there other games you would prefer?

Also, for those who haven’t played any of these games at all, what did you think of what you saw? Does this look like an interesting game to play or is this one not really your style? Let us know in the comments below!

This video is part of our first impression video series. Below is a list of 50 of the previously made first impression video’s we’ve made in the past:
