Review: Stratovarius – Dreamspace (Rock)

This review covers the alternative metal track Stratovarius – Dreamspace.

The track was released in 1994 on the album Dreamspace.

The track starts off with some guitars and possibly some keys. A lead guitar then comes into the track. A drum kit then comes in, gradually building up.

After this, the vocals come in for a verse. From there, the vocals take the track into the main chorus with more emphasis on the lead guitars. There are some orchestral hits towards the end. The section ends with some of the vocals being pitch bent.

In the next section, there are some more acoustic guitars. This backs a voice sample. A phaser effect is added for a moment. After that, another melody comes in. The vocals then come back in. This is capped off with an instrumental section featuring just the lead guitars at first. The drum kit would then come in.

The vocals then come in again. A brief guitar instrumental section comes in again before the vocals continue. This back and forth happens multiple times. The vocals then hit a high note for a while as the guitars slow down. The guitars then lead the track out.

One strength in this track is the vocals thanks to the themes of escapism. Some of the vocals are a bit tough to hear, but the message does get through in spite of it.

The various elements to keep the variety going throughout works well too. The inclusion of various effects along with some orchestral hits work to keep things interesting.

Meanwhile, the guitars are nicely done throughout. I have no real complaints about them, they just carry the track well.

Overall, this is a very solid track. It has interesting themes in the lyrics and the vocals are pretty decent. The various elements throughout keep the track interesting from beginning to end and the guitars carry the track well. So, a very solid track if you ask me.
