Review: Spice Girls – Spice Up Your Life (Pop) Drew Wilson | June 26, 2017 This review covers the pop track Spice Girls – Spice Up Your Life. This track was released in 1997 on the album Spiceworld. The immediately obvious thing in this track was the lyrics. The lyrics are about as bad as they come in a track. It is absolutely filled with cliche’s and overused lines that ultimately ended up being like nails on chalkboard. Ordinarily, that is enough to sink a track completely in my books, however, the vocals manage to improve the quality of the sound just because it was so lively. This may be why some people thought this track had some quality back when it was released. The instruments also manage to help this track make ground in the quality scale. I had a certain exotic lively sound that works surprisingly well (though the whistle may have been a bit much though). While there was a number of good elements to be had in this track, I don’t think it was enough to make up for such bad lyrics. The liveliness worked through the vocals and the overall instruments adds a lot to that liveliness. Unfortunately, the cliche’s and overused lines in the lyrics pretty much keeps this track from being anything above mediocrity. So, another track that is best left in the 90’s.
