Review: Sonic – Electrosound (Drum N Bass)

This review covers the drum n bass track Sonic – Electrosound.

This track was released in 2007 on the compilation album Weapons of Mass Creation 3.

One of the immediately obvious things about this track is the constant use of “electrosound” throughout the track. In fact, this vocoded sample is repeated continuously almost throughout the track. On the surface, that would make it sound like this track is really annoying. The major thing that saves this track from being annoying from this is the fact that this sample simply fades in and out throughout the track. Some parts have this as a prominent feature in the audio landscape, but in other parts, this is barely audible. In this respect, I would say its impressive that something so repetitive was also tamed down enough so that this isn’t all that annoying.

There are interesting elements throughout the track. There’s the number of simple melodies found throughout the track. Another element that does add a certain dynamic to this track is the inaudible vocoded voice sample. I have no idea what it says, but it was an interesting addition to the track. There was also numerous other effects thrown in as well.

The only real criticism I can think of is that, outside of the intro, it’s hard to really find a whole lot of “wow” factor. It’s well produced and there’s lots of interesting elements, but there’s not a whole lot for me to say “wow” about that would really take this track to the next level. All I can hear in this track is, “Hey, that’s pretty cool.”

Having said that, I would say that this is a very good track to listen to. It has plenty of elements to keep me moving to this track. Definitely an interesting track to listen to. So, a recommended one from me.
