Review: Ricky Martin – Livin’ La Vida Loca (Pop)

This review covers the pop track Ricky Martin – Livin’ La Vida Loca.

This track was released in 1999 on a self-titled album.

The track starts with a drum kit, brass elements and a synth effect. After that, the vocals come in for a first verse. A brief guitar makes an appearance before the vocals continue. Backup vocals are also present here.

Right after, the vocals take the track into the main chorus. What follows is an instrumental section.

The track briefly drops as the vocals almost have a brief solo. After that, the track largely comes back as the vocals continue in the next verse. Right after, the vocals take the track into the main chorus again. A guitar solo caps off that section.

A verse is then repeated by the vocals. Shortly after, the main chorus is repeated by the main vocals. The main chorus is repeated. That guitar makes a return again for another solo. The vocals then return to repeat parts of the main chorus before the brass leads the track out.

An upside to this track is that there is a nice lively sound throughout the track. Additionally, the vocals are actually nicely done.

A problem with this track, however, is that the lyrics are a bit skimpy on the verses. As such, this track winds up relying on the main chorus a bit more heavily. Because of that, this track winds up being a bit repetitive.

Another problem with this track is that the backing elements are almost on autopilot. There’s only one brief second where the track drops out. Because of this, there is an overall constant sound with little variety. This adds to that repetitive sound.

The only variety is found in the brass elements. They do give this track some variety. The guitar solo also gives some much needed variety. The combined efforts of both elements at least makes this track bearable.

Overall, this track has good vocals and a nice lively sound throughout. Unfortunately, repetition winds up holding this track back a fair bit. It winds up being an OK track, but nothing to get overly excited over.
