Review: Garbage – I Think I’m Paranoid (Rock)

This review covers the alternative rock track Garbage – I Think I’m Paranoid.

This track was released in 1998 on the album Version 2.0. We previously reviewed the track https://www.freezenet.ca/review-garbage-push-it-rock/>Push It from this album and found that the track is a very solid one. So, we thought we’d try this track as well to see if it’s also good.

This track also happens to have made an appearance in the Playstation game Gran Turismo 2.

The track starts with a guitar and a drum kit. A snare is reversed as well. The vocals then come in. Part way through, the vocals become lowered and slightly filtered. This leads the track into the main chorus.

During the main chorus, some lead guitars join the track. Part way through, the lead guitars hit longer notes. An instrumental section caps off this section.

The vocals then return with some backup vocals. They lead the track into the next verse. From there, they lead the track into the main chorus again. An instrumental section caps off this section. Some scratching is introduced to the track along with some filtered vocal samples.

After this, the vocals take the track into the main chorus again. The vocals then extend the main chorus with some more filtering. Some reverberation is also added in the track. After that, the track pulls back a fair bit. The vocals continue more quietly. After that, the vocals ultimately lead the track out.

One thing I do like about this track is all the small added features. The scratches, reverse snares (possibly a reverse kick as well), and subtle filtering may not seem like much for some listeners, but it really gives this track a very nice edge.

The vocals once again work quite well. They can be a strong presence in the track and almost a background sound whenever they need to. This track takes full advantage of the range available here to a very nice extent.

Echoing these positives, the guitars also help accentuate the overall flow of the track. Sometimes, they give off a more subtle sound. When the lead guitars hit, they help give this track a great presence. Overall, they work quite well.

Overall, this is a great track. It has great vocals, great guitars, and great overall effects. There’s really nothing I can find that sticks out at me as anything wrong with the track. So, a great track all around.

Score
8/10
