Review: First State & Jake Shanahan – Why So Serious (House) Drew Wilson | March 25, 2015 This review covers the electro house track First State & Jake Shanahan – Why So Serious. This track was released in 2012 as a single. While this track is definitely referencing the Joker from Batman, the track itself has very little to do with the movies outside of the name, the cover art image, and some samples of laughing that occasionally makes an appearance in this track. What this track does have is an interesting melody with a synth that has a vibrating pitch. I thought this was definitely an interesting element in this track. This track also has some more or less standard fare elements for an electro house track as well, though I thought that “woo!” sound added an interesting layer to the overall sound of the track. One criticism I have of this track is the mixing of electro house portions and the progressive portions. The electro house portions were decent enough. The progressive portions were pretty good. Unfortunately, I’m on the fence as to whether or not these two elements blend well together into the same track. Overall, I thought this was an interesting track. It’s definitely worth listening to and gets a thumbs up from me. Score 7/10 Drew Wilson on Twitter: @icecube85 and Google+.
