Review: Failure – Empty Friend (Rock)

This review covers the alternative rock track Failure – Empty Friend.

This track was released in 1994 on the album Magnified.

The track starts with some guitars, bass guitar, and a drum kit. After a bit, the vocals come in for the first verse.

After this, the vocals take the track into the main chorus. This is capped off with an instrumental section.

From there, the vocals take the track into the next verse. After a brief instrumental section, the vocals take the track into the next round of the main chorus.

The vocals then continue onto another verse with some slightly different emphasis on one of the guitars. Backup vocals also joins the track.

The vocals then take the track into the next round of the main chorus, though the track does pull back a fair bit. From there, the vocals then repeat the main chorus in the more typical manner. This is capped off with another instrumental section. An additional guitar joins the track. After a bit, the track just fades out.

One thing that stuck out to me in this track is the additional guitar in the end. I’m not sure why it was added to be honest. While that guitar might sound good on its own, it doesn’t mesh well with the other guitars.

The theme of the lyrics are interesting. Meanwhile, the vocals are OK, but nothing huge. Guitar work is decent enough save for the ending.

Overall, this is a decent all around track. While the additional guitar makes the track sound off, the track is otherwise reasonably good. The vocals are alright and the guitar work is otherwise decent. So, an alright track at the end of the day.
