Review: DJ Fresh – Submarines (2001 Original Mix) (Drum N Bass) Drew Wilson | May 3, 2017 This review covers the drum n bass track DJ Fresh – Submarines (2001 Original Mix). This track was released in 2004 as an LP along with a remix. One immediately noticeable aspect is the fact that this track is a bit more low key for a drum n bass track. Instead of relying on hard hitting bass, it relies more on softer melodies. The melody really worked well for this track. It has a simple sound, yet is a somewhat complex melody. The vocals, in the mean time, have a somewhat filtered sound to them that actually works in the tracks favor. The filtering is what gave this track a rather distinct sound. The lyrics are not bad, though they can be a little bit on the cryptic side. The overall flow, however, works very well. The track is full of higher moments and lower moments – sometimes breaking all the way down to just a couple of droning ambient sounds. Overall, I found this to be a great track. While the lyrics are a bit cryptic, the vocals helped make them stand out. The melody worked well and the flow was very nicely done. So, a definite recommendation from me.
