I think that when I made it up to this game, it was becoming apparent that I wasn’t exactly someone who would necessarily be into such a series.
Honestly, I think it was simply knowing how shooters played prior to this series because, comparatively speaking, a series like Halo is extremely simplified and dumbed down by comparison. For instance, I was never a fan of FPS games incorporating regenerative health systems. Further, level designs were much more involved where objectives and problem solving becomes a much bigger aspect of gameplay. A lot of games like Call of Duty, Halo, and others did away with this and replaced that with level designs that amount to a single long hallway in many instances.
Take, for instance, Duke Nukem 3D. Levels in that game involved things like key cards, solving simple puzzles, removing obstacles, etc. I see that substantially less in a number of shooters that were made since including the Halo franchise. In short, early shooters likely spoiled me which likely played a big role in me giving some of these games lower scores. I know there are plenty out there that have a different perspective on these series and I respect that. For me, this game wasn’t exactly the most thrilling experience I have ever had, so what can I say?
