This review covers the progressive trance track Liam Westbrook – The Rush.
It is unknown when this track was actually released. It did, however, make an appearance on the game XGRA: Racing Association. that game was released in 2003. With no other information available, that is probably the release year of the track. A low quality clipped version was also posted by the artist on YouTube for free streaming.
The track fades in with a synth and bassline. A whisper vocal makes an appearance as another synth joins the track. After that, the kick joins the track along with another synth effect. The high hat then joins the track.
After that, the drum kit drops out and the vocals join the track. The vocals have a slight vocoder effect applied to them. This is backed by a couple of synths. Part way through, the vocals are joined by the drum kit. At the end of this part, the vocals go back to whispering for a moment before dropping out completely. This section is capped off with an instrumental track.
From there, synth strings join the track. Whisper samples make appearances here as well. After a reverse kick, another synth joins the track to add a bit more melody. After that, the drum kit drop out, leaving only a few whispering samples and two synths. A synth effect makes an appearance.
From there, the vocals return for another round in the main chorus. This is backed by the full compliment of drum kit and synth. That added synth melody drops out as well. Then, the drum kit drops out and the whispers and a couple of the synths remain. The track is then lead out by a heavily reverbed kick.
The first thing that sticks out to me is definitely the vocals. Vocoded effects can be, of course, applied to varying degrees. In this case, it was only a very slight effect. This actually works very well with the vocals and just gives those vocals a little added oomph. The vocals themselves are great in and of themselves and pretty much stand on their own. While it would have been easy to leave them as is, I think it’s a great decision to add that slight effect on top of it to really maximize the quality of them.
Adding to this is the synths. I found them to be great. While the vocals do give this track a nice fresh sound, those synths really compliment that refreshing sound.
On top of that, I think the overall construction of the truck works incredibly well. There’s that nice ebb and flow throughout that gives this track such a nice personality. Everything just comes together nicely.
Overall, this is a great track. No question about that. It features great vocals, great synths, and great overall production quality. Definitely a recommended track as far as I’m concerned.
