New page

Drew "IceCube" Wilson is a well known journalist, DJ, producer, and website developer.

== Journalism ==

Wilson began his career as a journalist in September of 2005 working for then most popular file-sharing news website, Slyck. While he was an active member of the community before then, his journalistic endeavours became a large part of the websites journalism history. Wilson was able to conduct multiple interviews including Russell McOrmond, CIPPIC, and even film producers.

In 2008, he moved on to write news for the other major file-sharing news website, ZeroPaid. On that site, he expanded his scope to cover not just Canadian news, but international news, privacy, and technology related news as well. Wilson gradually became an indispensable asset for the site as a result. While there, Wilson continued conducting many interviews including with Russell McOrmond, Michael Geist, Renaud Veekman, and many others. His career spanned many years and lasted all the way up to 2013 on that website.

As Wilson's career started to come to a close on ZeroPaid, he opted to take his long-running success and build his own website, Freezenet.<ref name="Freezenet Launch">[https://www.freezenet.ca/hello-world/ FreezeNet.ca News Site Opens]</ref> Freezenet largely spent the first year in early development phases in the first year, but quickly became popular on social media websites, making it onto the front pages of many for a number of years. In the years since, Wilson began publishing music and video game reviews along with his worlg class level news articles. While Wilson could have focused on journalism, he had much bigger plans in mind. In 2018, he launched the Freezenet web forums.<ref name="Freezenet Forums">[https://www.freezenet.ca/new-feature-freezenet-now-has-a-full-web-forum/ New Feature: Freezenet Now Has a Full Web Forum]</ref>. In the same year, Wilson launched the official Freezenet podcast.<ref name="Freezenet Podcast">[https://www.freezenet.ca/new-feature-freezenets-official-podcast-launches/ New Feature: Freezenet’s Official Podcast Launches]</ref>. In 2020, Wilson also launched the official Freezenet Wiki which features information on music and methods of musical discovery.<ref name="Freezenet Wiki">[https://www.freezenet.ca/new-feature-the-freezenet-official-wiki-now-available/ New Feature: The Freezenet Official Wiki Now Available]</ref>.

Wilson shows no sign of slowing down and is only continuing to expand his reach. It only stands to reason that the success will continue to become a long-running feature in his storied career.

== As a DJ ==

In addition to journalism, Wilson also experimented in being a radio DJ. He worked for CFUR 88.7 FM and produced the show SoundWave. He used the moniker "DJ Frozen IceCube". The radio show started on February 1st of 2007<ref name="SoundWave Start">[http://soundwavemusic.blogspot.com/2007/03/soundwave-episode-1-feb-1-2007.html SoundWave - Episode 1 (Feb. 1, 2007)]</ref> all the way up to September 27, 2009.<ref name="SoundWave End">[http://soundwavemusic.blogspot.com/2009/09/episode-90-and-91-summer-memories.html Episode 90 and 91 (The Summer Memories Episodes)</ref> In all, 91 episodes were produced which is considered a very long running show for the station.

== As a Producer ==

Accompanying the radio show, Wilson also produced music under the moniker "Frozen IceCube". His music productions dates back to 2005, though in more recent years, his productions have been put in hiatus due to the hectic schedule of maintaining a website. Still, his old legacy music has been made freely available on the EDonkey2000 network and has been downloaded over 1 million times.<ref name="Music">[https://contentdb.emule-project.net/view.php?pid=1620 DJ Frozen IceCube - Free Digital Music]</ref> Wilson has not ruled out a comeback, however.
