Week 7: Inside the Senate Schedule on Bill C-11 Hearings

Two more hearings are scheduled for the Bill C-11 Senate hearings this week. We look ahead on the schedule.

The hearings into Bill C-11 are continuing into a 7th week. This week features two more hearings. If you are interested, the schedule is up on the Senate page.

For the first hearing, we see the following:

November 1, 2022 9:00 AM ET

Bill C-11, An Act to amend the Broadcasting Act and to make related and consequential amendments to other Acts

Nathalie Blais, Research Representative, Canadian Union of Public Employees Provincial Council of the Communications Sector of the Canadian Union of Public Employees
Wojtek Gwiazda, Spokesperson Radio Canada International Action Committee
Randy Kitt, Media Sector Director Unifor
Alex Levine, President Writers Guild of Canada
Neal McDougall, Acting Co-Executive Director, Director of Policy Writers Guild of Canada
Tulsa Valin-Landry, President, Provincial Council of the Communications Sector Provincial Council of the Communications Sector of the Canadian Union of Public Employees
John Welsman, President Screen Composers Guild of Canada

So, basically, the whole slate is just lobbyists for Bill C-11. Nothing much more to say about that, really.

After that, we see the following:

November 2, 2022 6:45 PM ET

Bill C-11, An Act to amend the Broadcasting Act and to make related and consequential amendments to other Acts

Jay Goldberg, Ontario Director Canadian Taxpayers Federation
Pauline Halpern, Executive Director Société des auteurs de radio, télévision et cinéma
Gabriel Pelletier, President Association des réalisateurs réalisatrices du Québec
Luc Thériault, Treasurer Société des auteurs de radio, télévision et cinéma
Alan Willaert, Vice-President from Canada, American Federation of Musicians Canadian Federation of Musicians

With the exception of the Canadian Taxpayers Federation, the whole slate seems to be even more lobbyists supporting Bill C-11.

Really, this appears to be the most anti-free speech week to date. It’s almost entirely composed of opponents to the internet. So, if you are going to follow along like me, be prepared to pack a lot of patience because there are going to be a lot of falsehoods, lies, insults, and half truths being spewed this week.
