Review: Yellowcard – Ocean Avenue (Rock)

This review covers the punk rock track Yellowcard – Ocean Avenue.

This track was released in 2003 on the album Ocean Avenue. We previously reviewed the track Breathing from the same album and decided to give this other track a listen.

The track starts with a guitar. The drum kit joins the track. Shortly after, the main vocals join the track. A second guitar temporarily joins the track. It later rejoins the track with an additional guitar.

Shortly after, the vocals take the track into the main chorus along with the full guitar set. This is capped off with the main chorus elements dropping out and leaving a guitar and the drum kit.

After that, the vocals take the track into the next verse. From there, the vocals take the track into the main chorus again. This is capped off with a different instrumental section. A semi-guitar solo then follows.

The vocals then rejoin the track as other guitars rejoin the track. After a few specific hits in the drum kit, the vocals take the track into another round in the main chorus. This round is altered with a brief instrumental drop part way through. This is capped off with a second more pronounced guitar solo. After that, the guitars lead the track out.

For me, the first thing that pops out is the vocals. They do a great job of offering a punk rock style of vocals. The lyrics, meanwhile, offers an upbeat sound with a sense of longing. It works quite well.

Followed closely behind is the guitars. They sound great to me. They are both very pronounced in the main chorus as well as laid back during the verses. So, they work quite well.

Overall, this is a very solid track. It has great vocals, great lyrics, and very nice sounding guitars. A very solid track well worth listening to if you ask me.
