Review: Tommyknocker – Criminal (Gabber Hardcore)

By Drew Wilson

This review covers the gabber hardcore track Tommyknocker – Criminal.

This particular track was released in 2009 on the compilation album Masters Of Hardcore Chapter XXVII – Design The Future.

This particular track uses vocal samples from the rap track Gang Starr – Tha Squeeze, though the samples are, interestingly enough, slightly slowed down.

To be honest, I never would have thought that the origins of this track are found in rap music. I would have thought the sample came from a movie or something, but apparently, it was rap.

I thought that the vocal samples really made this track an interesting one to hear. There’s obviously plenty of backing from the hardcore side of things, but the vocal samples really gave this track personality. The music side of this track was interestingly produced. There isn’t really much in the way of melody, but I don’t think that really detracts from this track at all. The pitch bent bass drum and the ambient effects were definitely sufficient here.

Overall, I felt that this was a really good track. Certainly is effective in tickling that little anarchist within you’s fancy. So, thumbs up from me.

Score
7.5/10
