Review: Togetha Brotha Soundsystem – Mr President Dub (Reggae)

By Drew Wilson

This review covers the Reggea dubplate Togetha Brotha Soundsystem – Mr President Dub.

It is not known exactly when this track was released, but the modified date of the MP3 pegs this track as being made in 2004. Unfortunately, we could not find any confirmation of this release date. Still, this track was released for free on the artists official website.

Reggae is not a genre commonly reviewed here on Freezenet, but we felt that this would be one of those times where we broaden out horizons and give something completely different a try.

Personally, of the little Reggae I’ve heard, it almost all sounds the same to me. It’s all a simple hihat lead with a few other percussion instruments. They also all just have a piano chord of some sort that’s on autopilot throughout the track. They all have the exact same chilled out relax feeling on top of it all. So, this was, admittedly, my feelings heading into this track. Still, like all other tracks, I go into it with an open mind and open to having my ideas challenged.

This track very successfully challenged my ideas of what I thought about Reggae music. Is there a chilled out relaxed feel to this track? A little, but the overall feeling in this track was more of being up to something. This with the added layer of being on the sly as well.

I’m personally lad I had this experience in listening to Reggae. I thought this track was a great track to listen to. I wish there was a non-looped version of this track, but I still found it enjoyable to listen to on loop. Great track all around.

Score
8/10
