This review covers the rock track The Offspring – The Kids Aren’t Alright.
This track was released in 1998 on the album Americana.
Easily the most distinctive part about this track is the lyrics. They discuss the disappointments of growing up, disillusionment, and the accompanying social problems. Though released nearly 20 years ago, the lyrics can very easily be applied today with the never-ending complaints about the millennial generation – not to mention virtually every generation before to one degree or another. For that, this track is quite impressive.
The vocals have their strengths and weaknesses. The main vocals were nicely done. They nicely belt out some of those lyrics and emphasize certain words in a way that was nicely done. Meanwhile, the backup vocals can be a little repetitive and annoying.
The guitars in this track was nicely done. Chords worked quite well and the solo was also nicely done.
Overall, the key ting that works for this track is the lyrics. This is because they can be quite relatable and, arguably, timeless as well. The main vocals worked quite well, but the back-up vocals, unfortunately, held this track back. Even then, it has some great guitar chords and even a nicely done solo. So, a great track if you ask me.
