Review: The Offspring – All I Want (Rock)

This review covers the punk rock track The Offspring – All I Want.

This track was released in 1997 on the album Ixnay on the Hombre. This track also appeared on the game Crazy Taxi.

Essentially, this track is talking about wanting to be left alone after putting up with what the world dishes out at you.

The vocals aren’t bad in this track. Unfortunately, some of the lyrics are a little hard to understand. The good news is that most of the lyrics are understandable so that the meaning can still be conveyed effectively. So, this is only a small issue.

The backup vocals aren’t bad. They actually even contribute to some of the main vocals instead of simply either repeating a line or just providing some additional sound. I thought this was a positive thing here.

An interesting feature is the fact that the BPM (Beats Per Minute) is up there for the average original commercial rock track. Some sources suggest that this track clocks at 163BPM which makes this comparable to drum n bass. Rock music is known to clock at speeds far slower. Some tracks in this genre may go for around 120BPM to 130BPM, so this is well above that range.

The guitar riffs and drumkit all sounded pretty good. While they weren’t exactly distinctive (the vocals tends to cover up any distinctive features of everything else).

Overall, this track was a very good one to listen to. It definitely has meaning and the vocals are quite distinctive even though some of the lyrics are at times a bit hard to understand. The way everything sits in the track, everything besides the vocals does, at times, take a back seat. Still, definitely worth listening to.
