Review: Protoculture feat. Shannon Hurley – Sun Gone Down (Original Mix) (Trance)

This review covers the progressive trance track Protoculture feat. Shannon Hurley – Sun Gone Down (Original Mix).

This track was released in 2011 along with a remix.

One great feature was the vocals. They were great not only in the main chorus, but also in the verses. The verses were great to hear and they were just full of emotion. The main chorus was just exceptional as they did an excellent job at helping to bring the track to a fantastic climax.

The backing pads, choir, and synth string all backed those vocals to incredible effect. The fading in of the main melody just brought the overall sound to a whole new level.

The main melody, in and of itself, was great as it was much more than a couple of notes looped. They managed to give such a nice variety to the tracks overall sound – an accomplishment given how great the vocals were to begin with.

Another great feature of the track were the chopped vocals at the beginning. They built the track up very nicely. They were utilized later on and gave the track a nice dimension of sound.

The way the track flowed from one part to another was very well done. This was aided by not only the pads, but also the bassline. Everything connected so well together. Every breakdown and build up, fade in and fade out, and a whole lot more gave this track such an emotional boost. It was incredibly well done.

Overall, this track really knocked it out of the park. The vocals were, in and of itself, incredibly well done. The backing pads made the track so much more emotionally meaningful. The main melody could have easily been drowned out by the quality of the vocals, but ended up elevating the track instead. As a result, all I can say is that this is one of the best tracks I’ve heard to date. A truly excellent listen.
