Review: Monolight – Alien World (Trance)

This review covers the trance track Monolight – Alien World.

This track was released in 1995 on the Alien Communication single.

The track starts with a synth pad. An unintelligible speech synthesized voice makes some appearances. A synth melody then comes in. A reverse cymbal then comes in and the synths drop out.

From there, a trance drum kit comes in along with a 303-like synth bassline. A crash then comes in along with a reverse cymbal. After that, a synth melody comes in along with some more of the speech synthesis. An additional percussion is added. After some more cymbals, the track drops out.

The synth pads return and a piano is introduced. The speech synthesis continues making periodic appearances. A bassline then makes a return along with some of the trance drum kit. The main synth melody makes a return after. After that, the piano drops out for a moment before making a return. The piano drops out again.

From there, the track makes another drop, leaving some slightly different synth pads. This is accompanied by the speech synthesis. The main synth melody then comes back along with the 303-like bassline. From there, the trance drum kit returns with the main synth melody and bassline. After that, the main synth melody drops out. After some more cymbals, the track drops again.

The piano makes a return with the synth pads and speech synthesis. That trance drum kit and 303 bassline makes a return. After that, the piano drops. The main synth melody then makes a return. After that, the main synth melody drops out again. From there, the track drops again.

What’s left is the piano, synth pads, and speech synthesis. The synth pads and piano lead the track out.

One thing I really do like about this track is the piano work found here. The melody is nice, yet complex. It really keeps the track interesting.

Another positive about this track is the synth melodies. They back the track nicely and even double as serving as the tracks chord as well. The subtle changes gives the track a nice variety.

My only problem is that the main synth melody tends to be a bit repetitive. It’s not bad for the first while, but because of its extensive use and repetitive nature, it tends to get a little old. I would have liked to have heard it get changed up every so often.

Overall, this is a decent enough track. It has some well done piano work and the pads work great to give the track some nice variety. The synth melody is a bit on the repetitive side, though. So, a decent track all around.

Score
7/10
