Review: Metric – Gold Guns Girls (RIOT 87 Remix) (Drum N Bass)

This review covers the drum n bass track Metric – Gold Guns Girls (RIOT 87 Remix).

This track was released in 2012 for online free streaming. The track remixes a rock track.

This track well and truly sounds like a rock track for the first few seconds, but when the drum n bass elements kick in, it is definitely a distinct drum n bass tune. One combination I’ve always liked was a drum n bass track with rock elements in it and this certainly tickles my interest.

As an added bonus, it even has lyrics in it. This can be a difficult addition as sometimes the lyrics in a drum n bass track simply is either there as some sort of decoration or it dominates the track so much that it’s the only element in the track worth listening to. This track manages to get this part right as the vocals really do sound like they belong in the track and it doesn’t sound like it was merely tacked on last minute.

Having heard the original after hearing the remix, I can say that it does improve on the original. The original had drums that felt like they were on auto-pilot. This remix manages to fix this with more variety. The breakdowns throughout the track also really add to the overall enjoyability in this track.

The lyrics weren’t bad. It’s a bit minimalistic, but it does portray and question overall greed.

The vocals were nicely done. I can’t really think of anything to complain about in this. If the lyrics were about sex, then I would say that the vocals are a bit cliche. So, I’m happy that this track simply doesn’t emulate the bad pop of the last few years.

Overall, I thought this was a very good track to listen to. I wished there was something somehow added that would completely take this track over the top, but it’s still a very enjoyable track nevertheless.
