Review: Metallica – Until it Sleeps (Rock)

This review covers the hard rock track Metallica- Until it Sleeps.

This track was released in 1996 on the album Load.

The track starts with a drum kit and a guitar. Shortly after, the vocals come in for a verse. This is backed by an additional guitar.

Shortly after, the vocals take the track into the main chorus with the lead guitars joining in. The lead guitars drop out after the main chorus ends.

From there, the vocals take the track into a short verse again. Right after, the vocals take the track into the main chorus. The lead guitars drop out again at the end of the chorus. From there, the vocals take the track into another short verse. After that, there is another round in the main chorus. The vocals extend the main chorus. This ends on a guitar solo. The vocals then gradually come back.

After that, the vocals return the track into the main chorus. The track then breaks down with the guitars and drum kit leading the track out.

For me, the vocals make it hard to even understand half the lyrics. Without research from third party sources, the most I got out of this track is that it’s supposed to be something evil. Again, with the way the vocals are, it’s challenging to get that far.

Another problem with the track is the mastering. The audio levels are pretty all over the map. Some of the verses are very quiet while the main chorus is cranked up. This makes it difficult to find a comfortable level to enjoy the track from beginning to end.

The guitars are decent enough on their own. They seem to be going for the insidious style which probably works for the theme of the track.

Overall, this is a pretty mediocre track. The mastering leaves a fair bit to be desired and the vocals are pretty hard to understand. The guitars are decent enough though, but nothing amazing. So, a mediocre one.
