Review: Melleefresh & Deadmau5 – Hey Baby (Original Mix) (Progressive House)

By Drew Wilson

This review covers the progressive house track Melleefresh & Deadmau5 – Hey Baby (Original Mix).

This track was released in 2006.

The track does have a rather lengthy intro, however, there is plenty of progression throughout, so it never really gets boring in any way. In spite of the long buildup, the track does build up to something really neat.

Once past the intro, the real defining characteristic is the sidechained sawtooth-like bassline. The track then launches into what has to be some of the dirtiest vocals I’ve ever heard in a track. Still, the vocals really add to the rhythm of the track.

Eventually, you get to the portion where there’s the moaning woman. This is probably the only part I didn’t really like about the track. It’s not that it’s supposed to be someone’s interpretation of sex, but it’s the fact that it messes with the harmony and rhythm of the overall track. It might be mildly amusing the first time or two you hear the track, but it eventually becomes a major detracting feature of this track.

The track then goes back to the dirty lyrics that makes this track have a really well done soundscape again. It has a good breakdown and the track gradually ends.

Overall, if the moaning was removed in the middle, I would call this a great track. Unfortunately, I can only give this a pretty good rating as a result of that. I’ve heard the instrumental version of this track, but the lyrics at the beginning and end adds a certain depth to the track. So, overall, a pretty good track.
