Review: Mariah Carey – Always Be My Baby (Pop)

This review covers the pop track Mariah Carey – Always Be My Baby.

This track was released in 1996 as a single.

The track starts off with some guitars. Non-lyrical vocals make an appearance here as well. A drum kit then comes in. From there, the vocals take the track into the first verse as the piano takes over for the guitar.

From there, the backup vocals join the main vocals for the main chorus. Guitars do make subtle appearances here.

After that, the main vocals take the track into the next verse. The backup vocal then join the track, taking the track into the next round in the main chorus.

In the next verse, backup vocals and main vocals take turns as they take the track into the next verse. From there, both vocals take the track into the main chorus again. The vocals then extend the main chorus as the track fades out.

For me, this ends up being a very cookie cutter track. The flattering generalities and vague concepts in this track are often the seemingly most frequently recycled things found in lyrics. They don’t really tell a story, but rather, try and be as general as possible to hit the widest audience. The end result is that they end up being quite hollow meaningless. This is a very common problem with something that is meant to be mass produced like this track.

The strongest part of the tracks are the vocals. They are alright. If they had inspiring lyrics to work with, they might be more interesting, but as it stands now, they sound fairly average in this track.

The backing elements like the guitar and piano do work. Unfortunately, they barely carry the track. They don’t do a whole lot other than provide backing sound to make the track even remotely passable.

Overall, this is a very mediocre track. It’s got very hollow and overused cliches in the lyrics. The vocals are alright, but nothing huge thanks in part to the worn material they had to work with. The backing instruments don’t do a whole lot for the track either. So, definitely a mediocre track to skip.
