Review: Iggy Azalea – Fancy ft. Charli XCX (Pop)

By Drew Wilson

This review covers the pop track Iggy Azalea – Fancy ft. Charli XCX.

This particular track was released in 2014 as part of the album “The New Classic”.

The overall feeling of this track seems to be being too sassy to care that your doing stupid things. It has elements of R&B in this track.

This track contains a lot of problems for me. For one, the bassline sounds like a slightly modified sawtooth. It is laid out as a couple of notes in a single bar and put on permanent loop throughout the entire track. To make matters worse, the only thing that serves as any hint of padding is a couple of effects sparsely put in throughout the track. This makes this track have a rather empty feeling to it. On top of it all, the lyrics contain “who dat?” which has been so often used, it’s become a cliche in my view. That was a feature in the song sadly.

I really struggle to think of anything positive to say about this track. The only thing I can think of is that when all the backing vocals came together in a part of the chorus, there was a hint of harmony in this track, but these moments are so fleeting, it’s not worth listening to this entire track just to hear that part – especially when that sort of sound can be heard in other tracks.

Overall, I feel dirty for having heard this song. To me, this track is garbage.
