Review: HIM – Join Me In Death (Rock)

This review covers the goth rock track HIM – Join Me In Death.

This track was released in 2000 on the album Razorblade Romance.

The track starts with synth strings and a piano. The vocals make an appearance.

After that, the lead guitars and drum kit join the track. After that, the lead guitars drop out, leaving the bass guitar, drum kit, and vocals as the track enters the first verse. From there, a lead guitar joins the track. After that, the remaining guitars join the track as the vocals take the track into the main chorus. Backup vocals are also present here.

From there, the lead guitars drop out as the vocals take the track into the next verse. Shortly after, the vocals take the track into the main chorus along with the lead guitars. This is capped off with a quiet portion with a small number of drum kit elements, subtle vocals, and the piano.

The lead guitars then rejoin the track as the vocals take the track into the main chorus again. After that, the track drops out and the piano leads the track out.

A strength this track has is the lead guitars. They work really well in filling out the overall sound. They are also only present on certain points in the track which adds to that dynamic sound throughout. So, I thought it was well done.

The piano also works quite well. It may get a bit on the repetitious side of things after a while, but it generally works pretty well.

Finally, the vocals work pretty well. It’s hard to really come up with anything in particular about them, but generally speaking, they work well throughout the track.

Overall, this is a pretty decent track. It’s got good guitars, good dynamic range, decent piano and good vocals. So, it gets a thumbs up from me.

Score
7/10
