Review: Goo Goo Dolls – We Are the Normal (Rock)

This review covers the rock track Goo Goo Dolls – We Are the Normal.

This track was released in 1993 on the album Superstar Car Wash.

The track starts with some acoustic guitar and a violin. After a brief drop, the vocals then come in with the guitars, violin, and drum kit. The vocals take the track into the first verse.

After a brief instrumental section, the vocals take the track into the main chorus. A lead guitar note caps off the section.

After that, the vocals take the track into the next verse. From there, the vocals take the track into the next round of the main chorus. This section is capped off with an instrumental section that consists of an acoustic guitar, drum kit, and violin.

The vocals then take the track into an additional round in the main chorus after a brief drop. After that, the guitars lead the track out.

For me, the vocals do sound decent enough. Nothing huge, but not bad either. The guitars are pretty much in the same boat. It is fairly nice to hear a violin to help give this track a bit of a punch.

My big problem with this track is the use of small drops all the time. Sometimes, it sounds like the track is going to end only to have it just continue. Once or twice is one thing, but to have it happen between every section can be a bit annoying. In this case, it actually makes the track jar a bit.

Overall, this is an alright track. The vocals, guitar, and violin sound pretty decent enough. My problem with the track is the excessive use of the stops and drops. It ends up making what is otherwise a pretty decent track seem a bit jarred. So, a decent enough track, but nothing huge.

Score
7/10
