Review: Fire & Ice – Souvenir De Chine (Trance)

This review covers the trance track Fire & Ice – Souvenire De Chine.

This track was released in 2001 as a single. It was released along with the track Out of Darkness.

The track starts with a reverse cymbal. A kick and a few high hats then join the track. A few more high hats join the track after. The clap then joins the track. A snare roll makes an appearance before the bassline joins the track. A synth melody joins the track.

After another snare roll, an additional synth joins the track. A cymbal crash then makes an appearance and the track drops out. Some distorted voice samples make an appearance. After another cymbal crash and kick, a photograph snap sample makes an appearance. Some synths then fade in. After a second camera snap, a couple of percussion’s join the track. Some filtered voice samples make a brief appearance. After a kick, the percussion elements drop out.

After a kick and cymbal crash, another synth joins the track along with a bassline. A snare roll then makes an appearance before the drum kit returns. The synth melody then morphs into a main melody. A reverse cymbal makes an appearance. A snare roll makes an appearance and a subtle synth is added to the main synth melody. A snare roll then makes an appearance and the main synth melody becomes simplified. The main synth melody then has a gradual filter applied to it.

After a high hat makes an appearance, the main synth melody drops out, leaving a secondary melody in place. A snare roll then makes an appearance and a large portion of the synths drop out of the track. After another cymbal crash, most of the remaining synths and parts of the drum kit drop out. A filtered snare hit then leads the track out.

One thing I do like about this track is that there is an interesting theme in this track. The use of the camera snap sample does give this track a sense of that theme as mentioned in the title. So, nice idea there.

The main synth melody works pretty well. It gives the track a nice sense of variety. Meanwhile, the synth pads give this track a nice overall sound.

My only problem with the track is that I don’t really find myself particularly excited about this one. It checks a lot of boxes on what makes a good track. Unfortunately, I don’t really hear anything in here that makes this one particularly amazing. It’s not to say it’s a terrible track, but I’m not going to find myself jumping up and down saying that this was an amazing one either.

Overall, it’s a pretty decent track to listen to. It’s got an interesting theme throughout and the synths worked pretty well. It’s nothing I would call amazing, but it’s certainly a decent one to listen to.
