This review covers the progressive trance track Ferry Tayle & Elucidus – Fremont (Extended Mix).
This track was released in 2020 as part of a single.
The track starts with a high hat, kick, and a synth. A heavily reverberated voice sample then makes occasional appearances. Additional effects are added along with a lead high hat. A second high hat joins the track along with a side-chained synth. A second synth joins the track. Many of these elements then drop out.
The lead synth then gradually fades back in along with the side-chained synth. The high hats then make a return. The lead synth becomes more full and is joined by various pads. That lead synth’s melody gains complexity. A number of elements start to fade out.
The drop hits when a reverberating kick makes an appearance. This leaves just synth strings and a few other ambient elements. A piano then joins the track. The voice sample has a side-chain added to it. A few other synths make an appearance. The lead synth then joins the track quietly, getting louder. The tracks overall Beats Per Minute also increases through automation. A secondary synth replaces the lead synth and continues the melody. A kick drill makes an appearance. Everything briefly drops out before the secondary synth continues the track main melody. This is joined by the full drum kit. Various synth pads back this part of the track in the process.
The piano then returns to the track, providing a secondary melody to back the main synth melody. Parts of the drum kit then drops out. After some sweeps, the rest of the track drops out save for the piano. The piano continues the main melody. High hats then back the piano. Another synth backs it.
From there, the piano drops out and the synth continues along with a drum kit and a few synth effects. A sweep makes an appearance and the high hats return. Another sweep makes an appearance. The synth then drops its cutoff frequency gradually. A few more elements drop out and filtering is applied to a number of remaining elements. The vocal sample eventually becomes what is left. A high hat along with the vocal sample leads the track out.
One thing I really like about the track is the main synth melody. The way it sits nicely between the kicks really helps give this track a nice rhythm. Another aspect about the main melody I liked is the fact that three different elements takes turns providing the lead melody. There is a synth, secondary synth, and a piano all taking at least one turn at that. As a result, there is that sense of continual evolution throughout the track which adds to the overall quality.
Another thing I really like about this track is the fact that there are so many elements layered in. It was difficult to mention everything as I discussed the actual track. Because of that, this track has such a rich overall sound that works quite well.
I can’t really think of anything that really detracts from this one. The production value is impressive and the overall sound works incredibly well.
Overall, this is definitely a great track. It has a nice evolution of the main melody between the two synths and the piano, the overall progression sounds great, and it has a very nice and rich sound. So, an overall great track that I will easily recommend.
