This review covers the soft rock track Eric Clapton – Tears in Heaven.
This track was released in 1992 as part of a single.
The track starts off with some acoustic guitar work. A subtle bongo element is added before the vocals come in for the first verse. Some string elements join in on the track as the vocals go into the first round in the main chorus. Some chime elements is also added. An instrumental section then takes over.
After this, the vocals go into the next verse with some backup vocals. A brass element makes some brief appearances.
From there, the vocals continue with the main chorus. An instrumental section then takes over again.
After that, the vocals come back for another round of the main chorus. After an instrumental section, the track breaks down and ends with cheering.
One things for sure, there is a definite emphasis on soft in “soft rock” for this track. Arguably, this is a really really really soft rock track. It’s hard to hear hardly anything in this one because it’s so quiet.
The vocals are rather quiet. With a combination of high notes and being quiet, it can be quite hard to understand some of the lyrics.
The guitar work is alright, but nothing too special. It’s enough to satisfy it being in the category of a lead instrument, but that’s about it.
There are subtle elements that show that there is effort to add variety to the track, but you really have to listen hard for them.
Overall, I found the track pretty boring. With so many things being so quiet, I have to work hard just to hear what all is in there in the first place. I’m not a fan of having to work at knowing what is in a track in the first place. While this track is barely passable, I would say you wouldn’t be missing much by not listening to it.
