This review covers the industrial track Empty – Drift (Ginger Snap5 Remix).
This track was released in 2012 as part of the album The Depths Below.
One great element of this track is the overall melody in this track. I thought the constantly evolving lead synth worked quite well throughout the track.
The backing vocals added an interesting dynamics to the track. It’s the sort of whisper filtered vocals that is heard.
The bass also helped add some interesting texture throughout the track – giving it a sort of roughened sound throughout.
My criticism for this track was that because the bassline and main melody was brought forward so much, the main vocals throughout the track are almost drowned out. It’s really hard to hear what the lyrics were. While the crystal-like filtering would have added an interesting dynamic to the track, it unfortunately gets lost in the overall soundscape already in this track.
Overall, this was a pretty good track. It had an interesting bassline and main melody. The backing vocals were also interesting. Unfortunately, the main vocals get lost in all of this – getting drowned out by the other elements. Still, it was an interesting track to listen to. Definitely worth listening to in spite of the mastering flaws.
