Review: Electronic Voodoo – Ohm (Live In Tibet) (Trance)

This review covers the trance track Electronic Voodoo – Ohm (Live In Tibet).

This track was released in 1990 along with a second version of this track.

The track starts off with some general synth effects. These effects involve sliding notes. After a subtle and brief voice sample, some bongo’s come in. The kick also joins the track along with some additional synth effects.

Some additional long synth notes come in to help build this track up. A bassline comes in as some of the effects fade away. A synth pad comes in and a plucked synth melody joins the track. When the longer note synth effects come in, the plucked element fades away.

The track then breaks down and an additional plucked synth melody comes in. It builds up with a voice sample. After that, the voice samples go away and the plucked synth melody makes a brief return. The longer synth effects come back in after as the synth pads come in.

From there, the track breaks down again and the plucked synth comes in along with the voice sample. An additional synth pad comes in as well. The track builds back up and the long synth effects along with the pads come back in.

The synth melodies go away and the snare comes in. Several elements then pull back as two synth melodies come in. The voice sample makes a return. From there, the track then breaks down somewhat. Some 303 effects take over along with some synth pads. The bongos then make a return as the volume on some of these synth pads are brought up. The voice sample makes a final return as the whole track fades out.

One of the big strengths of this track is that it has such an exotic sound to it. It’s not just the authentic sounding bongos, but also some of the synth effects which bares some resemblance to indigenous traditional musical instruments. It all provides such a great audio atmosphere.

Another strength in this track is the fact that there are a number of melodies that play throughout the track. These melodies give this track a nice flow and good variety.

One thing I will say is that this track could’ve used a more pronounced main melody to bring the whole thing together. As it stands now, it offers a good sound from beginning to end, but nothing really tying everything together. It’s a minor nitpick on my part, but it is something worth mentioning.

Overall, this is a very good track. It has such a great audio atmosphere with such exotic sounds. The melodies give this track a nice variety and flow. While nothing really ties this track together, it is still a track worth listening to.
