This review covers the pop track Cathy Dennis – touch Me (All Night Long) (7″ Mix).
This track was released in 1991 as part of a single.
The track starts with some sting elements and a drum kit. A vocal element does come in, but is non-lyrical. It doesn’t take long before the main vocals come in on a lyrical basis. This is joined by a cheap violin sound as well as an additional string sound.
After an effect, the main chorus takes over. This is capped off with a non-lyrical section. Shortly after, the next verse comes in. The vocals then transition to the main chorus again. This is capped off with a more or less instrumental section with some small amount of vocal work.
From there, the vocals take the track back into the main chorus. When the chorus repeats, the track fades out.
One positive element about this track is the vocals. Especially with the addition of the backups, they do sound great. I’m not entirely sure about the whooping part way through, but they otherwise do sound great.
The track also features a pretty decent set of sounds. The strings really do help other elements sound pretty good.
On the downside, I think the track would have been better served with some added transitions. There is the odd one here and there, but more could have improved things as well. On a similar note, I would have liked to have seen more to differentiate the verses and the main chorus besides the lyrics.
Overall, it’s a pretty decent track. It has some good moments, but it also has its flaws. The vocals are quite good, but the transitions and differentiation between verse and chorus could have been improved upon. So, a decent track all around.
