Review: Black Machine – How Gee (Breakbeat)

This review covers the breakbeat track Black Machine – How Gee.

This track was released in 1992 on the album The Album.

The track starts with a few percussion and a brass element. After a voice sample, the breakbeat drum kit kicks in.

From there, some hip hop style vocals come in to take the track into the verse. This is capped off with some more of the brass heard earlier in the track. The main chorus comes in shortly after. This is capped off with some guitar elements for a brief element.

At this point, the verse is repeated. This is capped off with a sort of second verse. After a voice sample, the brass makes an additional return. The track then breaks down and leaves mostly just the brass. From there, the voice sample returns and the track goes into the main chorus.

The vocals make a return and a verse is repeated again. The secondary vocals repeat like the previous time. After this, the first part of the verse is repeated again.

A part of the main chorus is then repeated as the track breaks down one final time.

One thing I do like about this track is the fact that it has some pretty good vibes throughout. The breakbeat heavy sections along with the brass really make this track tick in my view.

Each section in and of itself sounds quite good. It’s very easy to get into them. The problem I have with it is that the sections are quite repetitive. Each section repeats a couple of times. At the same time, some sections are really just some loops lined together. I would have liked to have hear a few more variances in the track to show some sense of progression. That never happened unfortunately.

Overall, this track has very good vibes. I like each section and how they transition smoothly from one part to the next. Unfortunately, each section is also highly looped. As such, the elements do get rather repetitive. Still, it is an enjoyable track and I do recommend giving it a listen. This is in spite of the repetitive nature.
