Review: Barenaked Ladies – One Week (Rock)

This review covers the alternative rock track Barenaked Ladies – One Week.

This track was released in 1998 on the album Stunt.

The track starts with the vocals, drum kit, and guitars at the same time, taking the track into the main chorus right away.

From there, the backup vocals take the track into a verse. A brief string instrument is found in that part. Main vocals come in towards the end before taking the track into the main chorus. This is capped off with an instrumental section as the track gradually pulls back.

After that, the vocals come in for another verse. The main vocals lead the track back into the main chorus. A quasi-instrumental section caps off this section. A trumpet (?) leads the track out.

My first thought about this track is that the main chorus sounds decent enough. I’m not overly excited about it, but it isn’t bad.

As for the verses, they sound OK, but they don’t add a whole lot to the track.

If anything, this track goes for that upbeat bubbly sound. It’s really the only thing that holds this track together in my view. Everything manages to cohesively bind together around an overall mood.

Unfortunately, I don’t really hear anything that punctuates this track in any significant way. It provides the basics, but that’s about it.

Overall, this track does manage to nicely produce an upbeat and bubbly mood. Everything about the track does mould itself nicely around this. Unfortunately, there isn’t hardly anything here that makes this a particularly exciting or memorable track. It provides the basics, but that’s about it. I personally would have liked to have seen more. So, a pretty mediocre track.
