Review: Apex – By the Way (Drum N Bass)

This review covers the drum n bass track Apex – By the Way.

This track was released in 2008 along with the track This Yearning VIP.

One interesting element was the voice samples. The reverb and the delay effects added to it really helped give this track a somewhat dreamy feel to it. I thought it was interesting.

The melody was interesting in both that there are constant changes to the filtering and levels as well as the occasional changes to add an interesting bit of variety. That made the track interesting to say the least.

The added piano that occasionally makes an appearance added an interesting dimension to this track.

There is a noticeable addition to half step along with the standard full step drum n bass sound. Maybe it’s because I haven’t heard too many good tracks that are half step, but I often find tracks that feature this to sound a bit uncoordinated and jarring. This track executes the half step successfully as it adds a slightly different rhythm than found in more common drum n bass tracks. So, I thought this was a positive.

Overall, this was a pretty good track. If you want some good background sound to your day that isn’t overly distracting, this is a pretty good candidate in my opinion.
